12 Quick Tips To Make Your Online Business More Successful
BONUS MATERIAL: FREE MASTERCLASS – HOW TO CREATE THE BEST BUSINESS MODEL FOR ORGANIC SUCCESS
This blog post is for any female small business owner who wants to improve the success of their online business.
Introduction
Building a successful online business will undoubtedly be one of the most challenging journeys you travel.
Daily business life can be tough. With that in mind I’ve listed 12 quick tips below that you can implement in your small business right away, to help smooth your journey to success.
1. Have A Mailing List In Place
You should have a mailing list in place in your small business as a priority.
Doing this will help you move your audience from your ‘surface spaces’ (social media, blogs, podcasts, Pinterest, Youtube channels), further in to your business, and on to an asset you own. This helps protect your business, brings people into your community, and gives you more opportunity to sell.
With the right strategy, your email list can easily become the place you sell more of your products and services than anywhere else you’re visible.
Mailing lists can convert five times more effectively than your other spaces. That’s great news for your business!
You’ll need to have some amazing lead magnets in place to build your list (I cover this in more detail in 10. below).
When you have subscribers on your list, your goal should be to engage with those people regularly, and to provide great value through your emails. Doing this will help your subscribers become more invested in you.
The quicker you’re able to build, engage with, and nurture the people on your email list, the greater the opportunity you’ll have to make sales through your list. If you need to learn more about mailing lists you can read this post, this post and this post.
2. Use Your Authentic Voice
When you’re showing up online, be confident enough to deliver your content in your own messages, in your own voice, every time you show up.
Your audience will relate to you much more if you show up as your true and authentic self.
Don’t try to be someone you’re not. People are savvy. They’ll quickly figure you out if you’re showing up with a false persona, and this will create a lack of trust in you, potentially causing your audience to walk away from your business as a result.
3. Be Consistent
Consistency in your visibility is absolutely essential. Every single day. On your platforms. You have to find a way to be consistent, including your social channels, blogs, podcasts, Youtube channels and mailing lists.
The more visibility you have in all of your spaces, the more people will see your online marketing content, and the quicker you’ll then grow.
Remember though, even with consistency, a key part of your content marketing strategy should be delivering the type of content your target audience wants to consume.
Be sure to take time to research the platforms you use, to find the type of content your target audience is already engaged in, in those spaces.
Model the best performing content you find for your own business. This can help you grow more quickly on your platforms.
4. Build Your List At Every Opportunity
Encourage people to join your mailing list at every opportunity. This goes back to number one above. Your mailing list is the beating heart of your business.
You should, as a priority, keep moving people from your ‘surface’ spaces – your social media platforms, your blogs, podcasts, your Youtube channels, over to the safety of your list.
This helps to protect your business longer term.
Once you have anyone on your email list, you must make sure you remain in contact through great email marketing campaigns, so that you’re building a sense of community and value giving through your list.
5. Set Standards And Boundaries
Set standards and boundaries in your business. Know how you’re going to show up, and what is acceptable and not acceptable to you.
Protect yourself, your business and your community with high standards and boundaries.
Be positive, supportive and engaging, and stay away from the negative conversations that saturate our social channels.
Be committed to the best levels of customer service, and treat your customer base exceptionally well to foster great customer loyalty with them. This can be essential to the success of your business.
6. Quality Over Quantity
Quality wins over quantity. It can be detrimental to your business to try and push high volume, low quality content, products and services out, just to try and stay on the treadmill of daily business life.
Slow down.
Create a great business model for your brand that gives the best opportunity to achieve real success more quickly (I teach a traffic generating business model inside my membership – 40k Club).
Know where you’re going to show up. Commit to how often you’ll be consistently visible in those spaces.
Understand how every part of your business connects to create a great customer journey for your target audience.
Have a core range of products and/or services in place that you can promote regularly.
Invest enough time in good product marketing to make those products/services successful, before you start bolting more and more products/services on.
It is of little value to you to have high volume products/services that are not selling, and that it’s impossible to stay on top of the marketing of.
7. Nurture Self-Belief
Nurture your self belief. Spend time learning how to become an even greater expert in your business.
Develop your skills. Work on your mindset. Foster as much self belief in yourself and in your business as possible.
Working on self-belief should be a core part of your daily business life, because if you lack self-belief in yourself as a business owner, and in the products, services and content you put out into the online space, it’s likely your lack of self-belief will transfer over to your target audience, and you might lose that audience as a result.
8. Tell Stories
Tell stories, and learn how to get better at telling stories as part of your content marketing plan.
Humans are hard wired to listen to and engage with stories.
You can tell stories about your business journey, the challenges you’ve faced along the way, your daily business life, behind the scenes, how you make your products/services, what happened when a customer bought, and how you set your business up.
You can also tell stories about your customers including their wins, what they purchased, the customer reviews they’ve left you, and the transformations they’ve achieved as a result of purchasing your products and services.
Remember that stories are a much more powerful marketing strategy than hard selling tactics.
9. Choose Your Spaces Wisely
Choose your spaces wisely, and don’t overload your schedule with more spaces than you can easily manage.
In the 40k Business Model that I teach, I encourage ladies in my community to choose five core spaces that maximise their opportunity to be visible, and to gain organic traffic, leads and sales, but in a way that is manageable and avoids burnout.
If you try to show up everywhere at once, the level of work involved in doing so will quickly overwhelm you.
If you take a look at the 40k Business Model I teach as your starting point, and you adopt that model for your small business, you’ll find it easier to manage, and to achieve organic traffic, leads and sales.
Ladies inside my 40k community are achieving greater growth and faster success using the 40k business model. More importantly, by using this business model they’re able to achieve greater success as solepreneurs, without burning out.
It’s a great business model that works.
10. Create An Irresistible Offer
Create an irresistible offer as your lead magnet.
This goes back to great email list strategy.
You have to offer an incentive to people that’ll make them want to jump on your email list.
Your lead magnet has to be of high value, something that really piques the interest of your audience, that makes them willing to give you their email address, in return for your free offer.
You can’t expect people to opt-in, if what you’re offering as an incentive falls way short.
How can you make your lead magnet even more enticing? How can you create something that truly stands out, and gives your audience the biggest incentive to join your list?
11. Be Obsessed About Being The Best
Be obsessed about being the best at what you do.
Never stop thinking about how you can improve the way in which you show up in the online space. This should be an ongoing business goal.
Consider how you can serve your audience better, how you can improve your business performance, how you can hone and improve your craft/product/service/expertise/skills.
Your business growth will be an ongoing process, and your own growth has to align with that. It is simply not possible to 10x your business growth when you’re operating at a level 3.
The online space is busy and crowded.
When you make a commitment to be the best at what it is you do, you become the business that stands out.
12. Always Under Promise And Over Deliver
Always under-promise and over-deliver with your audience.
NEVER over promise and then under-deliver. You’d be surprised how many businesses do this just to chase a sale. This is poor quality marketing, false messaging, and a sure fire way to lose your customer base.
If you make grand promises you then fail to deliver on, you will destroy customer satisfaction and confidence in you.
Whatever promises and claims you make, you must stand by your words, and then work to make sure you over-deliver on any promises made.
When you do this you’ll create an amazing customer experience, causing people to be blown away by your standards of service.
This is a sure fire way to quickly build a long term, loyal tribe.
Conclusion
Everything you do in your business will have a consequence, either positive or negative.
Your goal as a small business owner is to commit to being the best you can be in all areas of your daily business life, and to build an online presence that’s of the highest standard.
Doing this will bring loyal customers to you, the outcome of which is you’ll have a highly successful business that rewards both you and your customers for the longer term.
