Discipline – Your Secret Weapon In Business

YOUR BIGGEST AND BEST SECRET WEAPON IN BUSINESS - TEXT WITH A GRAPHIC OF A WOMAN SAT AT HER DESK BELOW

Introduction

This is the no fluff, anti-bs blog, where I keep it real about the mindset, motivation, and strategy it takes to build a wildly successful business online.

Today I’m talking about something that separates those who make it in business, from those who don’t.

This is something that is going to be fundamental to your own success.

It’s discipline.

As humans, we love motivation – it’s a feeling that’s exciting, it gives us a rush, it makes us feel powerful and like we can do anything.

But here’s the problem: motivation fades.

Discipline is different. It’s the thing that keeps you in the game when the motivation wears off.

The problem with discipline is that it doesn’t have the same level of excitement that motivation does. That’s why so many business owners try to rely on motivation to get stuff done, because it feels good.

Discipline can feel uncomfortable, and therefore people don’t want to rely on this to help stay focused in their businesses.

However, discipline will be the thing that creates your biggest success, not motivation.

So there needs to be a switch.

If you’re serious about hitting your goals – whether it’s your first 10k month, scaling to 40k months, or just building a business that actually works – you must master discipline.

Let’s dive deeper and figure out how you can do that.

why motivation will not help you build a successful business, and the one skill that will

Motivation vs. Discipline

When I first started my business, I would get these bursts of real energy – that energy was full of new ideas, fresh inspiration, a sudden drive to take massive action.

But then, life would happen. I’d have a slow week in my business, or I’d have posts that flopped (many of them!), or an offer that didn’t sell (plenty of those too).

When these challenges happened, suddenly all the motivation would VANISH, and I’d find myself questioning everything, wondering if I was even cut out for business.

Have you ever felt the same?

What I eventually realised was that successful entrepreneurs aren’t the ones who feel inspired and therefore motivated, all of the time. They’re the ones who do the work no matter how they feel. And this is where discipline comes into play.

Discipline isn’t about waiting to ‘feel like it.’ It isn’t about waiting for the inspiration and excitement to happen.

Discipline is about showing up regardless, whether you’re feeling like it or not, no matter what you’ve got going on, no matter how little the results are right now, and irrespective of the challenges coming at you.

When you commit to discipline, no matter what, magic starts to happen.

Why Most People Struggle With Discipline

Most people rely on motivation day by day, because motivation FEELS GOOD, we like it, and that nice feeling drives us.

But this is why many people stay stuck. They work when the motivation is there and they’re feeling excited, but when things get tough, and motivation does a big fat disappearing act, people stop.

The truth? The biggest growth in your business happens in the moments when you don’t feel like working – but you stick with discipline, and you do it anyway.

You can’t build a 40k revenue a month business (the core thing I teach!), by showing up only when you’re in the mood, and motivation is in the room. In fact you have to stick motivation over in the corner, and start to bring discipline centre stage instead.

Doing this will significantly increase the results you achieve in your business.

Inside my bespoke 40k Plans, I help women create structured, sustainable routines that help increase discipline, because the secret to success isn’t one big action, it’s the small, consistent disciplined habits that compound over time.

Mindset Shift: The Identity of a Disciplined Business Owner

Let’s talk about identity for a second. If you constantly tell yourself, I’m just not disciplined, guess what? That’s exactly what you’ll be. Instead, try shifting into this identity: I am the kind of business owner who does what needs to be done, no matter what.

Every time you show up, even when it’s hard, you reinforce this identity. You become the kind of person who follows through. And that’s powerful. It builds your discipline muscle, so that you no longer have to rely on spurts of motivation that never stay for the duration.

Practical Steps to Build Discipline

How do you build discipline when all you’ve been relying on is motivation? Here are four simple steps:

  1. Create Non-Negotiables – Decide right now: What are the absolute must-do tasks in your business, no matter what? Posting content, emailing your list, making offers? Set your non-negotiables and stick to them. This helps you settle in to the art of discipline more easily. I have a free no fluff business schedule PDF Guide, and it shows you how to build your daily non-negotiables – you can get that free guide here.
  2. Use the 10-Minute Rule – When you don’t feel like working because the motivation is not there, commit to just 10 minutes. Most of the time, if you can get through that first ten minutes, you’ll start to find your groove, and you’ll then find it easier to keep going. Doing this again helps you start to use discipline rather than motivation in your business.
  3. Eliminate Decision Fatigue – Plan your tasks in advance. If you sit down to work but don’t know what to do, you’ll procrastinate. My no fluff business schedule helps with this, because it gives you a structured daily routine that fits with the time you have available to work on your business. It keeps you focused on the priorities that are going to help you generate traffic, leads and sales. You can get my free no fluff business schedule guide by clicking here.
  4. Track Your Wins – At the end of each day, write down what you’ve accomplished, and start being more disciplined about tracking your results. Seeing your own progress really helps build momentum even when the big results aren’t there, and tracking that progress daily again helps to build your discipline muscle.

Conclusion

Here’s what I want you to remember: You don’t need more motivation. You need to commit through discipline.

The best entrepreneurs in the world aren’t more talented than you, they don’t have some secret power that you don’t have.

The reality is they’ve learnt not to rely on motivation, and have learnt how to use discipline to keep showing up and doing the work that needs to be done.

The more you start to use discipline in your daily business life, the easier and stronger it becomes.

You’ve 100% got what it takes to build a wildly successful business – but you need to have the means to show up consistently, even when it’s hard – and discipline is your ally that will help you do that.

Discipline is now your favourite skill that helps you manage your impulses, thoughts, and emotions, to help you achieve the key goals in your business that will get the desired outcomes you want.

The more you lean in to discipline, the quicker your business results will come.
